3. CO-04: The Constant Gardner
Early
this cycle, it seemed the seat getting the most attention from GOP
candidates was freshmen Rep. Betsy Markey's (D-CO 04). The CD certainly
isn't the most obvious target for the party: McCain won a slim 50-49%
victory there, and Markey defeated Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R) by a very
solid 56-44% margin.
But many GOPers believe Musgrave was her
own worst enemy, and with the right candidate, Markey can be defeated
in this GOP-leaning seat. And they believe state Rep. Cory Gardner (R)
is that candidate. He entered the race late this week, but he'll have
company, as several other candidates are considering bids. Still,
whoever emerges from this primary will likely give the very personable,
"un-Musgrave" Markey a run for her money, and won't roll over for her
like Musgrave did.
